QR Codes Take To The High Seas

 U.S. Sailing Team

The U.S. sailing team, hopefuls for the next Olympic event, has had their sails emblazoned with QR codes. AlphaGraphics, marketing specialists and sponsors of the U.S. sailing team of the same name, has made a customized QR code that was on display at last week’s Rolex Miami OCR. It was first revealed during training. It was seen again at the second stop of the International Sailing Federation’s 2010-2011 World Cup.

The code can be scanned and links to a tab for AlphaGraphics on the team’s Facebook page. This is the first time QR codes have been used in a competitive environment and it has drawn a lot of attention to the team.

“A lot of other sailors are asking us about it,” says 2008 Olympian, Graham Biehl. “We’re so excited to be the first to put this on our sail at such a high profile event.”

For the past four decades, AlphaGraphics has been primarily a design and printing company. With technology advancing quickly, they have decided to launch themselves into the marketing world.

They are adapting to what they are calling “The New Now,” believing that without embracing and implementing mobile technologies, particularly QR codes, businesses will have no leg to stand on in the future. AlphaGraphics is sure that QR is the face of the future for mobile marketing.
